Pōkairua Hōpuapua Reo follows on from Pōkaitahi Kāpunipuni Reo to continue development of formal oral language skills. Pōkairua Hōpuapua Reo focuses on needs of the paepae and knowledge of other tribal histories.
Graduates will be able to draw on iwi relationships both within and beyond Taranaki. They will demonstrate critical awareness of traditional and contemporary tikanga related to life and death and be able to perform appropriate protocols utilising a range of karakia, waiata, kōrero and formal language tools.
Confidence gained by learners speaking Taranaki dialect will enhance their iwi and hapū connections and raise their profile within Taranaki. Graduates’ capacity to utilise Taranaki reo in a range of contexts will also enhance their current roles in organisations.
Te Pokairua Hōpuapua Reo is delivered via six weekend wānanga - dates yet to be confirmed.
